Running Thin

I'm a graduate student in the southern United States. I'm not a runner, but I've always dreamed of being one - if my schedule allows me!

I don't claim to be perfect, just human. Fall seven times, stand up eight.

Anonymous asked: what work outs do you do?

It depends on the day, really. I make sure to do at least 30 minutes of cardio a day, but in reality I generally do 45 minutes to an hour. I generally either power walk on a steep incline or do running interval training (I’m training for a 5K, so I’m working through the Couch to 5K program).

I also do weight training 3 times a week. I vary which muscle group I work, but I do at least one heavy core workout a week and alternate in back/chest, arms, and legs. What I do with each set varies depending on what I want to work specifically. But I make sure that when I’m doing weights that I’m keeping up a pretty quick pace so my heart rate stays up.

I don’t go through any workouts like the p90x or Insanity — while they work for some people, I think they focus too much on the “quick” results - and let’s face it. You have to be pretty fit to start those workouts. I would like to be able to look back and say I did it the “old fashioned way”: hardwork, determination, and a healthy diet and lifestyle change.
